Houston County Democrats Plan Sam Houston Celebration

Local Democrats will hold a Local Townhall for county candidates and a Community Banquet for state and federal candidates in both of Houston County’s City Halls.

 
 

ERIN, Tenn.

In 1871 Houston County was founded to honor the life and career of Sam Houston. The Tennessee Leader’s storied career included serving as Governor of two states, Tennessee and Texas, as US Senator from Texas, and as President of the Republic of Texas. The Houston County Democratic Party will hold a two-day event on Saturday July 14th and Monday July 16th to celebrate courageous leaders in Tennessee who in the spirit of Sam Houston “Do right and risk the consequences.” This is the only event in Houston County to honor the statesman the county is named after.

The Houston County Democratic Party is hosting a two-day Sam Houston Celebration to shine a light on local elections and allow for Houston County residents to meet our Democratic Candidates for State and Federal Office. All HCDP events are free and open to the public.

On Saturday July 14th at Tennessee Ridge City Hall the local Democratic Party will have a Local Townhall from 11 AM – 4 PM. Candidates for Mayor, Sheriff, Trustee, Road Superintendent, Circuit Court Clerk, and Register of Deeds are all invited to participate. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of all candidates.

On Monday July 16th at Erin City Hall the Houston County Democratic Party will have a Community Banquet for State and Federal Candidates. The following candidates and campaigns plan to attend:

-       Mayor Karl Dean, candidate for Governor

-       Justin Kanew, candidate for Congress

-       Matt Reel, candidate for Congress

-       Billy Borchert, candidate for State Representative

-       A representative of the Bredesen campaign

“The Houston County Democratic Party knows that our strength comes from small town values of southern hospitality and loving thy neighbor,” said Charles Uffelman, Communication Director of the Houston County Democratic Party. “It is going to be two days of fun and politics that honors leaders for standing on principle and allows citizens to get involved.”

The two-day Sam Houston Celebration featuring a Local Townhall and Community Banquet will give Houston County residents an opportunity to connect with leaders from across Tennessee who will be involved in the 2018 elections.

Everywhere we go people are responding to our message of Opportunity and Prosperity for ALL,” said Paula Jones, Chair of the HCDP. “With Phil Bredesen at top of the ballot and Billy Borchert running here in the district and all the candidates in between, the Democratic Party is ready to win! We invite ALL people of Houston County to join us on July 14thth and July 16th to reconnect with the Democratic Party here at home.”
